emphasised in future guidelines, with the proviso that if there is no proof of bacteriological cure, greater efforts should be made to improve initial microbiological TB diagnosis. This would enable individualised patient-specific drug susceptibility results to inform regimen choice and ensure that treatment completion is a robust indicator of success. In light of the new information from this study, we would suggest similar studies are performed in different settings both in the UK and elsewhere. The information obtained may allow for better selection of patients to be tested at treatment completion.

Factors Affecting Patients’ Adherence to Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Therapy for Obstructive Sleep Apnea Disorder: A Multi-Method Approach
Background: Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the gold standard therapy for treating obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) disorder. However, patients’ adherence to its regular use is poor. The present study aimed to determine the adherence rate to CPAP therapy by identifying factors affecting its regular use and its associated problems and discomforts among a sample population in Mashhad (...

Nursing implications Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a condition whereby breathing is interrupted during sleep. Patients with this condition spend less time in the deep sleep phase of the sleep cycle, leading to daytime sleepiness and problems engaging in activities of daily living. Continuous positive airway pressure provides a constant stream of pressurised air, with the aim of maintaining ...
متن کاملDriving ability in sleep apnoea patients before and after CPAP treatment: evaluation on a road safety platform.
Sleepiness is considered to be the major cause of increased traffic accidents in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS). Until now, OSAS patients' driving ability has been assessed using driving simulators, but no assessment in a more natural driving environment has been carried out to date. The aim of the present study was to evaluate driving parameters in OSAS and in controls ...

WINNING ABSTRACT: Circulating levels of TNF-a are elevated in Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Syndrome (OSAS) and likely contribute to associated cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, TNF-a has been suggested as a mediator of excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS). We investigated the predictors of TNF-a in OSAS in large, well-selected patient and control cohorts. We undertook a prospective study of 30 no...
متن کاملSimultaneous sleep study and nasoendoscopic investigation in a patient with obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome refractory to continuous positive airway pressure: a case report
INTRODUCTION The standard treatment for obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome is nasal continuous positive airway pressure. In most cases the obstruction is located at the oropharyngeal level, and nasal continuous positive airway pressure is usually effective. In cases of non-response to nasal continuous positive airway pressure other treatments like mandibular advancement devices or upper airway s...
